HISTORY ____________________________
The non-profit Lawrence Community Nursery School is the 2nd oldest
parent-run cooperative preschool in the nation.
The school was
founded in 1948 by a group of 10 mothers and was the first desegregated
school in Lawrence.
In 1956,
the school moved to its current location at 645 Alabama Street.
Today, more than 50 children (ages 2 1/2 to 5) are enrolled
in one of three classes taught by certified early childhood
teachers.
The school
is commonly referred to as "The Little Red Schoolhouse".
Only member
fees and several fundraising efforts finance the school.

LCNS web site to learn more.
